WEBFoot Custom Calls Stepped Rod Call Mandrel is finally here!

There are many variations of goose calls out there, and of all mandrels, goose call mandrels tend to be the most customized due to bore diameters and steps.  For that reason, these mandrels are more expensive than a regular straight rod mandrel, but for all of you goose call makers and stepped mandrel users out there, this should be just the ticket.

In general, guts styles goose calls tend to have a 7/8" back bore for the insert, to accommodate the o-rings and guts for the call and the mouth piece portion  is generally 5/8".  Guts style duck calls are a 3/4" back bore with a 9/16 or 5/8" through bore.  These "steps" make the mandrels a bit more complicated to make as well as taking more time.  We will have the same styles of Stepped Rod Call Mandrels as we do Duck Call Mandrels: the MVS, PLS, and the CLS.  The kegs for guts style goose calls are generally a 39/64" to 5/8" through bore, which can be handled on a regular 5/8" duck call mandrel or custom 39/64" mandrel, and can sometimes even be done on the 5/8" portion of the stepped mandrel assuming it has the secondary recessed cuts.  Guts style duck call kegs, on the other hand are smaller (1/2" back bore and 1/4" to 3/8" through bore) and will need a smaller mandrel, and depending on size, may or may not be able to retain the pin-lok set up.

The pictures show here are of a generic goose call mandrel and duck call mandrels.  Your measurements will likely be different, and it is easy for us to include those measurements into your mandrel.  The stepped rod mandrels are based on either a 5/8" or 1/2" mandrel holder, depending on part availability or special request.

Here are some of the features available with the new Stepped Rod Mandrels:

  • Dual diameter surfaces to fully support your work

  • Multiple pin-lok slots available in one mandrel to aid in securing your work to the mandrel (additional $10.00 per slot)

  • Crush pressure surface on keg end is inside the call so no worries about marring the face of the barrel

  • One stepped mandrel rod for goose calls can likely accommodate both barrel and keg (multiple recess cuts can be integrated for maximum versatility ($5.00 per additional  recess cut)

  • Rods can be fitted to handle the smaller goose call guts at .611" to .620" and still maintain all other features

  • O-rings can be integrated into the mandrel rods to increase stability on slightly over-bored material

  • As always... Custom set ups are just a phone call or email away

  • Fits your existing MVS, PLS, or CLS mandrel holder to save you money (must specify holder diameter when ordering)

  • Common #2 Morse Taper holders, same as the MVS, PLS, and CLS

  • Triple diameter surfaces are available at an additional cost

Feel free to contact us about the new stepped mandrel rods, we'll be happy to help you any way we can.

*Note: Mandrel rods of less than .375" (3/8") are too small to retain the Pin-Lok slot, they can be made  Crush-lok only.
