5/8" Shank - 3/4" Body (Straight)

Made in the USA!!!  The EA Series.   Not only is it 1-1/2" longer OAL than most of the Import arbors, but also boasts a larger expanding screw for better durability (1/4"-28), six slots for easier expansion and less stress on the expansion screws (instead of 4), and proud to be made in the USA!  Not to mention readily available replacement expansion screws!

Made from 12L14 Carbon Steel and uses a Tapered Head Socket Cap Screw for mandrel expansion.  The mandrel body is NOT knurled (and is not available in a knurled version), if you require a knurled mandrel please see the EXM series mandrels.

PLEASE NOTE!  The expanding portion of the STEPPED EA series mandrels is ONLY on the minor diameter (smaller of the two diameters).  The larger diameter is ONLY A SUPPORT SECTION and it does NOT expand.  These are made in the common stepped bore configurations (7/8 x 3/4 and 7/8 x 5/8 for goose calls - 3/4 x 5/8 and 3/4 x 1/2 for gut based duck calls).  These mandresl WILL NOT hold two different bore sizes, they are specifically for holding a STEPPED bore configuration.  Sizes are specified in the part number -

Series 1st # Pair 2nd # Pair 3rd # Pair (if any)
Example: EA587858 Shank Straight Dia or Major Step dia Minor Dia if Stepped mandrel - BLANK if a straight mandrel
 EA Series Mandrel 58-5/8" 78 = 7/8" 58 = 5/8"

Choose your mandrel size based on the size of your minor bore.  If you have a step bore configuration with a 5/8" minor bore, then you want a mandrel with the smaller of the two diameters to be 5/8".  If you have a straight bore - you do not want to use a stepped mandrel.  You will want to get a straight mandrel   It is NOT recommended to use mandrels smaller than the bore size you are attempting to hold.  These mandrels can only be expected to expand approximately .007-.010" before damage to the mandrel or the expansion screws can occur.

Custom Sizes are available - contact us for pricing and details.

1/2" (.500") Expanding Mandrel with a straight 5/8" shank (.625") - for use in a collet chuck with a 5/8" collet. (which helps save you time by eliminating the need to change collets when you change mandrel sizes)

1/2" diameter, 3.0" long - 5/8" shank 1.5" long - OAL: 4.5".  Utilizes a 3/16" Allen wrench for the expansion screw socket.

Expanding mandrels have a limited range of expansion before damage to the mandrel can occur.  Typically your bore should not be larger than .010" over the size of the mandrel.  Though the mandrels will expand beyond that point (some more than others depending on model and diameter), alignment will suffer if the bore is any larger than mandrel and at a certain point the mandrel will be damaged and could become unusable if the bore is oversized by too much.  If you have issues with a mandrel holding a blank, the first thing you need to do is inspect your bore.  Measure each end with, at the least, a dial or digital caliper (something that reads in thousandths of an inch) to identify the actual size and if there is any taper.  Any more than .010" oversize and you will need to look into your drilling equipment and address the issues there, or look into drilling undersize and using a chucking reamer to bring the hole up to size.

These mandrels can be used with or without a tail stock, but use of a tail stock while roughing is recommended.

Replacement screws are readily available as well as T-Handled long reach allen wrenches - see "related products"

We recommend applying a little dab of heavy grease (sparingly) to both the threads of the screw and the tapered potion of the head of the expansion screw for longevity.  These are the two main friction/wear points.

FOR USE WITH A COLLET CHUCK ONLY - Not designed to be used with the PLS or MVS #2MT Mandrel Holder

Requires a 5/8" collet.  "L" Style Allen wrench included.

Replacement Expansion Screw part number is TES1428 (see "Related Products" below)
